Packing List for Guests

The following is a list of items to consider packing for your visit to Sylvania Wilderness Cabins in addition to your clothing and personal items.

Recommended:

  • Bath and beach towels  (We do not provide these)
  • Flashlights (Our grounds get dark at night.  Outdoor lighting is limited to allow our guests to enjoy great stargazing and a more wilderness like experience)
  • Non-disposable drinking containers for carrying liquids into the wilderness area (disposable cans and bottles are not allowed in the wilderness area
  • Hair shampoo and conditioner (We do not provide these)
  • Canoes/Kayaks/Paddles
  • Sunscreen
  • Sunglasses
  • Hat
  • Insect Repellant
  • Raingear
  • Fishing gear
  • Life Jackets
  • Camera
  • Compass

  • Bikes
  • Daypack
  • Reading light
  • First aid kit

  • Electric motor (no larger than 4 hp or 48 lbs of thrust), 1 or 2 batteries and a battery charger

  • Lightweight, long sleeve shirt for protection from sun and/or bugs

We provide:

  • Sylvania Wilderness Day Use Pass (required to enter the Sylvania Wilderness Area

We rent:

  • a 12′ aluminum rowboat and a 13′ aluminum rowboat.  Rental includes oars and an anchor.  Rental does not include life jackets or an electric motor and battery.  Rent is $11 per day or $55 per week, tax included.  There is also an additional $20 cleaning fee.

Available nearby:

  • Bait is sold nearby.
  • Fishing licenses are sold nearby at Sylvania Outfitters.
  • Canoe, kayak, rowboat and electric motor rental is available nearby through a local outfitter.  Sylvania Outfitters will deliver rental boats right to our dock and pick them up after you are done.
  • Firewood is sold nearby (Please purchase your firewood locally to help prevent the spread of insect pests or diseases harmful to the forest such as Emerald Ash Borer or Oak Wilt.)
