About

Sylvania Wilderness Cabins caters to silent sports enthusiasts or anyone seeking to experience the scenic beauty, wildlife and serenity of a still wild Northwoods.  We are open mid-May to mid-October.

Great opportunities exist here for canoeing, kayaking, fishing, hiking, biking, wildlife viewing, nature photography or simply experiencing a sense of wildness and solitude. When you are ready to come indoors, Sylvania Wilderness Cabins offers clean, cozy, well-furnished cabins for rent.

Our cabins are located on Crooked Lake – a beautiful, mostly wild, 556-acre lake. Surrounding almost the entire lake is the Sylvania Wilderness and Recreation Area. Much of our appeal comes from our close proximity to Sylvania which is just a few minutes walk, bike or paddle away.

Our large dock provides a pleasant place to sit and relax, enjoy the scenery, observe a loon, cast a line or take a swim.

Options for paddling and fishing are many. Crooked lake has over 30 miles of shoreline to paddle along. If you wish to venture further; High Lake, Mountain Lake and Clark Lake can each be accessed from Crooked Lake by a short portage.  Additional paddling and portages will take you to the rest of Sylvania’s sparkling lakes. The lakes of Sylvania are known for their great bass fishing. Guests are often amazed by the large pan fish they catch on Crooked Lake.

For biking, miles of scenic roads, both paved and unpaved, wind through the area. A bike ride from our cabins to the Clark Lake beach on the tree canopied road through the park provides a very scenic ride and can be followed by a refreshing swim at an outstanding sand beach.   The Wilderness Lakes Bike Trail  provides many miles of bike paths nearby.

Seemingly endless miles of hiking trails can be found in the Sylvania Wilderness and Recreation Area.  Other hiking destinations in the surrounding area include the Trapp Hills, the Porquipine Mountains and numerous waterfalls.

At night, enjoy a campfire our community fire pit located near the lake shore.  Listen to loons calling, owls hooting and possibly wolfs howling.  See stars you have not been able to see in the city.  We keep our grounds dark at night so you can enjoy the night sky.
